The WiNRADiO WR-B2C-40 downconverter and signal combiner allows broadcast AM and FM stations to be monitored within a 30 MHz slice of HF spectrum, thus reducing receiver specification requirements for monitoring or recording broadcast signals spread over more than 100 MHz. It is best suited for use with the G35BMO Broadcast Monitoring Option software coupled to a WiNRADiO G35DDCi PCIe receiver.
A low noise amplifier ahead of a high dynamic range mixer using crystal controlled downconversion shifts the 87.5 - 108 MHz FM broadcast band to the 7.5 - 28 MHz range. The AM broadcast band input passes through a steep roll off low pass filter before being combined with the filtered and down converted FM band signals.
Separate antenna inputs are provided for AM and FM antennas allowing for optimized antennas for each band to be used. A single antenna could be used if desired in conjunction with a WR-ACD-1800 Dual antenna combiner.
The WR-B2C-40 can be used with virtually any HF receiver which continuously covers from 140 kHz to 30 MHz. However, the FM broadcast signals from 87.5 MHz - 108 MHz will appear between 7.5 MHz and 28 MHz. Wide FM demodulation is also required to monitor FM broadcast. By contrast, the G35BMO software provides a frequency calibrated display (for AM and FM broadcast), plus AM and Wide FM demodulation with multi-channel monitoring.
